Founded by Kim Swanson-Huff nearly 25 years ago, Map Connections began as part of her work as the Director of Waterloo Catholic Youth Ministry (WCYM). Kim saw firsthand the power of travel to broaden horizons and inspire young people. She dedicated herself to giving students the opportunity to go beyond the classroom and explore not only the wonders of the world but also their own potential.

In the early years, Kim and her husband, John, led students on Mission, Adventure, and Pilgrimage (MAP) trips, traveling across the United States and around the globe. From National Catholic Youth Conferences in major U.S. cities like Columbus, OH, and Houston, TX, to World Youth Days in Italy, Germany, and Canada, their trips offered young people the chance to deepen their faith, experience new cultures, and forge lasting friendships. One of their most memorable adventures was touring Rome along with a group of 50 students, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
As Kim’s role at WCYM came to a close, friends, family, and former participants reached out, asking Kim and John to continue leading trips—this time for all ages. Responding to this call, MAP Connections was born. Since then, we’ve expanded our travel offerings to include fabulous River Cruises, trips to Ireland and Scotland, and our signature Tours of Italy.

With over 20 countries and more than 1,000 travelers connected over the past 20 years, Kim and John have made it their mission to help people discover destinations they may not have explored on their own. These wonderful shared adventures have built lifelong memories, friendships, and connections across the globe.

Today, MAP Connections continues to thrive as a family-run business, driven by a passion for helping travelers embark on meaningful, fun, and enriching adventures—no matter where in the world they go.
